Why California Proposition 8 is Important

One of the most closely watched and fiercely debated propositions being voted on in the country today, and one which has serious implications for all the other states, is California’s Proposition 8.
The entire text of which is: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California.”

Imagine Californian’s surprise when they woke up in mid-May of this year to find that 4 California Supreme Court Justices had determined that 4.6 million of us (61%) had passed an unconstitutional initiative statute in Prop 22 back in 2000.

This is called, “Government of the judges, by the judges, and for the judges.”

And so the same fourteen words have returned in Proposition 8. This time to amend the state’s constitution and overturn the supreme overturners.

I have this theory. That everyone who plans to vote NO on Proposition 8 and calls those of us who support traditional marriage “hateful, discriminatory bigots” have one thing in common. They all think they’re smarter than God. Now that I think about it, that’s a pretty good litmus test for determining at what point people become “too smart for their own good.”

Now if you want to be too smart for your own good, that’s fine by me. But if you want to be a leader in society and make it your aim in life to become too smart for the good of the rest of us, then you need to be in some other line of work. The mouse trap industry comes to mind.

I understand they’re always looking for a better one.

But there are things (believe it or not) that really can’t be improved upon. Such as God’s arrangement for the foundation of a civilized society and a healthy culture.

Way back when the Human Family’s Tree only had one branch and two leaves on it, the biblical record tells us that He said “Let us make man in our image… male and female He created them.” And God judged this to be a very good thing! It was not two males or two females together that reflected the image of God, it was male and female.

He of course, being the Father, or, as our own Declaration of Independence puts it, “Nature’s God” and “The Supreme Judge of the world”. Then we’re informed that the man and the woman were to, “leave father and mother and cleave to one another and become one…” It was from this profound and loving union that has been known as marriage for millennia that all human life and all civilizations were to spring and still springs from to this day! Does “Be fruitful and multiply” ring a bell?

So, the question is, what does the Supreme Judge of the World know that four Supreme Court Justices in California don’t know? (I’m trying to decide if God might think that’s a hilarious question, or if it hacks Him off just thinking about it).

Well, for starters, Nature’s God intended and designed that all life spring from loving, intact, heterosexual families. Hey, don’t shoot the messenger. It’s His arrangement, not mine. that a man and woman come together in joyful, loving, and intimate union to express their love for one another and to have children. I even believe God made the reproductive process to be as intensely pleasurable as it is in order to teach us something about the transcendent nature of love and the supreme joy and delight He himself derived in creating the human family.

But the human race is not just perpetuated in and through heterosexuality, we are nurtured by it. Girls learn femininity; learn how to be loving, devoted wives and mothers as they’re raised by their own mothers who model this before them. Boys learn what healthy masculinity is and what it means to be a loving and devoted husband and father as they develop under the tutelage and influence of the father in their household and see mature manhood modeled for them. These males and females in their own time then leave their mothers and fathers to cleave to their own mates. And so life — ALL life — is perpetuated and nurtured, generation after generation.

For a homosexual relationship to be viewed or treated as the exact, same kind of relationship that exists between a man and woman goes against everything in nature and everything nature’s God says about that! When it comes to the procreation of our species, gay and lesbian relationships are a barren and sterile proposition. No life can come from those unions.

The gay and lesbian community has all the individual civil rights everybody else has and civil union status to boot. Rather than turn the biological/cultural norms for an entire species upside down, they should be content with that. And if it weren’t for the outrageous self-centeredness of their more radical proponents, they would be.

Can gay couples love each other and commit to one another in a long-term relationship? Of course they can. Do they have the right to do whatever they want to in private? Of course they do. But they can never procreate the human family. Their ‘domestic unit’ can never accomplish what the heterosexual’s ‘domestic unit’ can. They themselves owe their very existence to heterosexuality. Well, that plus the fact their parents didn’t abort them.

Neither should homosexual people, who estimate their own minority status to be about 3 to 4 percent of the total population (which leads me to believe it’s not that high), think for a minute they can adequately nurture the biological/heterosexual norm that procreates the human family. This is why I don’t believe they should be allowed to adopt and raise children. Ironic isn’t it? The environmental and endangered species extremists won’t let you touch a twig on the ground if there’s a spotted owl feather underneath it, but it’s perfectly alright to completely re-design, tinker with, and re-work the dynamics of the most fundamental building block of human society.

Of course, all of this explains the left’s effort to drive God out of the public square. If we do away with God, we do away with the basis for considering something ‘wrong’ or ‘bad’ or ‘sinful’. Then we can go about making up our own rules. Just like those judges did in California.

Just who do these judges think they are?!?

Well, for one thing, they think they’re smarter than God.

A civil union might be many things, but Holy Matrimony it is not. And it’s time for Californians to speak up now, or we’ll be forever picking up the pieces. Many times, California’s voters have started national trends. If Proposition 8 passes, this could be one of those times.
